He's initially focused on getting revenge for his father's death, however, after getting to know the people around him, he's been given a new direction. He's bad at studying and seems to have little interest in learning outside of weaponry, especially firearms.[2]

When the doorbell rings a few moments later, Shiki goes to answer it only to be blown backwards by an explosion. He sees Samidare Momoya standing in the doorway, who is immediately crushed by Tsuyoshi's car as he tells Shiki they have to run. As they flee, Tsuyoshi tells Shiki that Samidare is still alive and that he is a Momotarou who is targeting Shiki because he is actually an Oni. He explains that the myth of Oni and Momotarou is actually true and that the descendants of both have been at war for thousands of years, with Momotarou eventually banding together to form the Momotarou Corporation - an organisation which hunts for Oni who hide among the general public, which Shiki initially refuses to believe.

Samidare quickly catches up to the pair and attacks their car with a sword made of black mist and restrains Shiki with a web of the same material. Abilities[]

Overall Abilities: Shiki, like his entire class, is considered the best generation of Onis to join the Oni Corporation's Combat Unit, which, along with his fame as one of the Child of the Kishin, makes him feared even by members of the Momotarou Corporation as they see him as a strong threat.

Master Marksman: Even at a young age, Shiki has proven to be an excellent marksman, which combined with his Blood Eclipse Release: Blood Ritual of the Ten Guns allows him to make precise and lethal shots with a wide variety of weapons from his blood arsenal, which, together with his creativity and ingenuity, allows him to create and use the right weapon in new and improvised ways to defeat his enemies.

Blood Eclipse Release: Like other Oni, Shiki is able to control and manipulate his blood through Blood Eclipse Release, creating unique devices based off personal experiences and/or interests.

  • Blood Ritual of the Ten Guns: For Shiki, releasing his blood results in an arsenal of different firearms. In the beginning, he could only utilize one firearm at a time but during the conflict with Mikado Momodera in the Kyoto Arc, Shiki can now manifest two guns; albeit with much difficulty.[3] During the Kegon Falls Arc, he discovers that he can materialize new firearms that do not exist with his imagination, allowing him to create weapons with special effects or capabilities that ordinary weapons would not have.

Child of the Kishin: Shiki is an exception among Oni as he is one of the eight Children of the Kishin, granting him explosive power even whilst using very little blood, although it is physically draining for him to utilize. Shiki's elemental attribute is Enki ("Fire").[4] Whenever he taps into his powers, Shiki gains fire resistance and his body is enveloped in an inferno which spreads as he strikes a target.[5] During Koenji Arc he evolved his control over the fire element, managing to emanate his flames to fly at high speed through the air, increase his locomotion and manage to emanate the intense heat of his body without using his flames, which are hot enough to melt metal.

Berserk State: When Shiki first awakens his Oni power, he is pictured in his Berserk form wielding at least twelve firearms.[6] In the Kyoto Arc, he once again lapses into his Berserk state while fighting Mikado , this time wielding at least seventeen firearms.[7]

Great Willpower: Shiki, even though he had already lost control in the past and assumed the Berserk state, as time passed he acquired a strong determination and character that allowed him to even maintain consciousness when he reached this state and in more than one situation he endured injuries and fatal damage that would make even other oni faint or weaken.

Relationships[]

Tsuyoshi Ichinose[]

Shiki was adopted by Tsuyoshi after the latter found him orphaned as a baby.[8] With the knowledge that Shiki was an Oni, Tsuyoshi abandoned his post in the Momotaro Corporation and went into hiding to safely raise him. When Tsuyoshi's former Momo Corp subordinate eventually located and targeted Shiki, his father gave his life to protect him and asked Shiki to become strong enough to beat both the Momotarou and his Oni blood.

Before Tsuyoshi's death, Shiki appeared ungrateful and dismissive but it quickly became clear that he cared deeply for his father. Tsuyoshi was buried on Onigashima at Shiki's request and he regularly visits his grave to pay respect. He is determined to find and kill Samidare Momoya to avenge his father.

Naito Mudano[]

Shiki and Mudano meet after Tsuyoshi's death and Shiki's first fight against Samidare. He seems to find Shiki annoying, but still brings him to the school to test to see if he's a good candidate for fighting. Shiki uses his knowledge and force to fight down going berserk against Mudano, and is eventually accepted. He seems to get annoyed easily with Mudano, mostly because of how Mudano insults his intelligence and control.

However, they seem to somewhat respect each other, with Shiki recognizing how far ahead Mudano is than him, and vowing to surpass him so he can end the war between Oni and Momotarou. He also vows to make sure that Mudano won't be able to add more to his tattoo.

Jin Kougasaki[]

Jin is Shiki's rival and reluctant roommate. He and Kougasaki don't get along. Kougasaki sees himself as smart and overall better than Shiki, and Shiki thinks that Kougasaki is stuck up. They get into frequent arguments and rivalry with other, sometimes devolving into physical altercations with each other. Shiki demanded Jin to give him a tissue for his nosebleed, but only for Kougasaki to tell Shiki to don't talk to him. Shiki taunt Jin for not having horns, but only shown Kougasaki do have horns when he prefers to not show them, claiming only an moron rookie goes around and flaunting their horns. Kougasaki also calls Shiki as nosebleed boy. After Nerima, their relationship grows to be a bit better and less filled with hatred on either side.

In Keagon Falls, they have a bit of respect for each other, which grows in some way. After Keagon Falls, Kougasaki is worried about Shiki's mental state, even listening in on his conversation with Kyouya and Mudano to hear about how he's feeling, despite not wanting to be seen by him. In the Koenji Arc, Kougasaki lets Shiki know that he believes Yusurube is the traitor, even though Shiki doesn't want to believe him. They both hold something in common which is revenge on the Momotaros for killing their love ones. When Jin lost against Hayate, Shiki came just time to take over Jin's place to fight and kill his father, Hayate Momoido to help his rival to achieve Jin's revenge for him and avenge his mother, Asumi and older sister, Hazuki.

Homare Byobugaura[]

Shiki likes Homare out of the gate, thinking that she's cute and will be easy to get along with. However, it's hard for her to overcome her anxiety, and believes she won't be able to help Shiki during their first fight together. Up until the Snow Mountain Training Arc, Shiki seems to be into her romantically and only romantically, but when they're hiding out in the cave together, she confides to him her past, and he helps her gain her confidence to properly use her Blood Eclipse Release.

Mikado Momodera[]

The two met in Nerima and both lied about who they were. They meet up more times, and Shiki grows to liking Mikado very much. After a building is set on fire and some humans are injured and killed, Mikado finds him there and sees Shiki, both of them realize who the other are and are officially on opposing sides, Mikado replaces Jin as Shiki’s rival.

They have to fight each other, and after their fight happens, Mikado understands Shiki more and apologizes to him. Shiki accepts his apology and still accepts him as a friend, despite everything.

Kyoya Oiranzaka[]

Shiki initially finds Kyouya annoying because of his kind of flippant nature and how he interacts with his patients. Kyouya views him in a positive way and enjoys to have Shiki around him while he's working. He tells Shiki about Mudano's tattoo and helps him out after Shiki's first real kill.

Samidare Momoya[]

Samidare Momoya is Shiki's primary arch-nemesis. Samidare attempted to kill Shiki when he found him and Tsuyoshi years after Tsuyoshi adopted him. He kills Tsuyoshi and beats Shiki badly, causing him to go into berserk for the first time. Shiki has vowed to kill him to avenge his adoptive father.

Ikari Yaoroshi[]

The two don't get along initially, due to both of them having hotheaded personalities. With the way Ikari acts about women and girls, Shiki believes he's never had any relations with one, nevermind the fact that Shiki also hasn't. When Ikari breaks off to join the Kikoku Unit, Shiki one of the few who really tries to keep him at the school. When he meets up with him at Keagon Falls, he manages to get Ikari to realize that all of the students want him back and he manages to convince him to return. After this, they seem to be on pretty good terms with each other.

Juji Yusurube[]

The two manage to bond over similar perverted desires, though Shiki's more put off by how Yusurube attempts to use his Blood Eclipse Release for said desires. Yusurube, along with Rokuro, is a bit jealous of Shiki due to how long it took for Shiki's Oni powers to manifest in comparison to themselves.

During the Koenji Arc, Shiki doesn't believe Kougasaki when he says that he believes Yusurube is the traitor, but the two accidentally walk in on him stealing some information to give to the Momotarou, and they get into a fight. Shiki manages to track down Yusurube, and learns the truth about his sister before he delivers him to the rest of their classmates.
